What we collect

We aim to collect as little as possible. If you email us or use a contact form, we receive the information you choose to send, such as your name, email address, and message, and we use it solely to respond and to improve the site. If you choose to sign up for any optional email updates, we keep your email address for that purpose only. We do not require you to create an account to read anything here.

How we use it, and what we do not do

We use the limited information you share to reply to you, to handle corrections and feedback, and to send only the updates you opted into. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not trade it to debt-relief companies or lead buyers. If we ever use basic, privacy-respecting analytics to understand which articles help people, we will keep it aggregate and minimal, and we will update this notice accordingly.

Your choices

Any marketing email we might send is opt-in, and every such message includes a clear way to unsubscribe, consistent with anti-spam law. You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing hello@defeatingthedebt.com. We will honor reasonable requests promptly.

Third-party links

This site links to outside resources like nonprofit counselors and government agencies because they are genuinely useful. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we do not control, so we encourage you to review their policies when you follow a link. A link is for your convenience and information and is not an endorsement.

Defeating the Debt is an independent educational resource. The content here is for general information only and is not financial, legal, or tax advice. Every situation is different, so before acting on anything you read here, consider speaking with a qualified professional or a nonprofit credit counselor (you can find one through the National Foundation for Credit Counseling or the U.S. Department of Justice list of approved counseling agencies). We do not sell debt relief, and we are not paid to recommend any specific company.
